Oakland Sewage Treatment Facility

In my community of Oakland, the main sewage treatment facility is run by East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) and it is located in Oakland under the start of the Bay Bridge. Here, the sewage is treated and recycled, and some of it is disposed of into the Bay. Oakland's Public Works Department helps maintain the city sewage pipes so that it makes it to this treatment plant.

  1. hi Angela,
that is terrible that some of the sewage is disposed of into the Bay. Note to self, do not go swimming in Baker Beach! or anywhere in the Bay! thanks for the information!

  2. Hey Angela,
I had no idea that the East Bay MUD disposes of sewage into the the Bay, I knew it always wasn't the best water but knowing this makes it me think it might be worse than I thought. Thanks for sharing!
